Ahmedabad : Patel quota agitation leader Hardik Patel, who walked out on bail after being confined for nine months, may join Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). AAP, that has been trying to make inroads in Gujarat and other states after its landslide victory in Delhi, is likely to induct Hardik Patel in party. Hardik Patel, if joins AAP, would give major boost to Arvind Kejriwal’s party in 2018 Gujarat Assembly elections.
Hardik Patel, right after getting released from the jail, is mulling option about joining AAP. The 22-year-old quota spearhead met senior AAP leader Ashutosh and other leaders of Gujarat unit in Bharuch on Friday, reported Newsd.com. Arvind Kejriwal, in his video message posted on AAP’s Gujarat Twitter handle, defended Hardik Patel and slammed BJP for slapping sedition charges on him.
“Hardik Patel is in jail for the last eight months and he has been charged with sedition. People told me that they are very upset with this. What is the mistake of Hardik Patel? He raised his voice for Guajarati’s and fought for their rights. He never raised voice against the nation. He never spoke of breaking the nation,” Kejriwal said.
Hardik Patel walked out of Lajpore jail on Friday. He was granted bail last week by the High Court in two sedition cases and a case of loot and damage to properties at the BJP MLA office at Visnagar, paving the way for his release. He was accused of inciting violence to put pressure on the government to accept the demand for granting reservation to Patels under the OBC category.
Hardik’s mega rally on reservation held in Ahmedabad on August 25 last year had sparked violence killing 10 people including a policeman besides causing damage to public properties and vehicles across Gujarat.
